Greater Manchester firefighters protest against plans to axe staff

Firefighters gathered to protest against a decision to cut about 250 jobs in Greater Manchester.

Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service approved the job losses despite the chairman of the region's fire authority warning it would "put people at risk".

The authority said the savings were necessary due to government funding cuts.

Firefighters gathered outside the fire service's headquarters in Swinton earlier.
