Merseyside research and transport promised £49m of funding

More than £49m of funding has been secured to improve transport links and to develop future technologies in Liverpool.

A £15m project to develop a new range of data sensors will involve the University of Liverpool and Liverpool John Moores University.

The chancellor George Osborne announced the government will be giving £5m to the Sensor City project, with each university matching the funding.

Mr Osborne also announced about £34.4m of funding to improve roads in Merseyside and to upgrade the Halton Curve rail line by 2030.
