Roman villa mosaic on permanent display at Stanwick Lakes nature reserve

More than 20 years after its excavation from Stanwick Lakes in Northamptonshire, a 4th Century mosaic is going on display to the public.

The mosaic - the centrepiece of the floor of a Roman villa - was found when archaeologists were working in the that area of the Nene Valley prior to the start of sand and gravel quarrying.

It was taken to Portsmouth by English Heritage, but has only just been restored, thanks to £10,000 from Northamptonshire County Council.

Louise Hubball reports.
