Star Wars box scan reveals Emperor Palpatine figure

A special x-ray machine at the University of Nottingham has been used to produce a 3D image of a Star Wars figure sealed inside a plain box.

Toy collector Dave Moss did not want to open the package in case it devalued the toy.

He had hoped his model would be a valuable Boba Fett but it turned out to be a more common Emperor Palpatine - worth about £30.

Special mail-away packages were sent to collectors in the late 1970s and early 1980s by Palitoy, a UK company, in exchange for tokens collected from the backs of Star Wars toys.

Those receiving them did not know which figure they were going to get.
