Oxford to Didcot rail engineering works in numbers

Network Rail is raising the track at Hinksey, south of Oxford, to prevent the line being flooded.

It is an £18m project, with 100 workers on site 24-hours-a-day for the next two weeks.

The watercourses near the line drain water from 3,000 sq km of central England, so the track is being raised and new culverts are being installed.

Find out some more of the statistics which explain why the line is closed until 15 August.
