Pre-Raphaelite artwork restored on church ceiling

The work of a South Yorkshire artist has been painstakingly restored at a village church.

A depiction of the ascendancy of Christ by John Roddam Spencer Stanhope adorns the ceiling of St John the Evangelist church near Barnsley.

The pre-Raphaelite painting was covered up for more than 50 years to protect it from damp, but has now been restored following Heritage Lottery funding.
