Conisbrough Castle's 12th Century basement explored

The basement of a 12th century castle has been explored by English Heritage for the first time.

Conisbrough Castle in South Yorkshire, built in 1175, is famous for the settings of Ivanhoe stories.

English Heritage volunteers were helped 30ft down into the bowels of the building's by a mine rescue team.

English Heritage said it was a "once in a lifetime" experience.
