Newhaven woman, 81, undergoes gender surgery

A woman from East Sussex has become the oldest person in the UK to undergo gender reassignment surgery, at the age of 81.

Ruth Rose was a man called James until her early 70s. She has lived as a woman ever since.

She told BBC South East Today's Ian Palmer the reaction from most people had been positive. Ian also spoke to Heather Ashton, chief executive of TG Pals.
