Horden shooting: Killer got gun from car

A man who killed himself after shooting three women used a gun he got from his car, police have revealed.

Ch Supt Paul Goundry, of Durham Police, said that Michael Atherton carried out the killings following a minor family argument.

Mr Goundry also revealed that Mr Atherton's partner Susan McGoldrick, 47, was shot dead as she stood next to her 19-year-old daughter Laura, who escaped the house.

An inquest into the deaths has been opened and adjourned.
