Flooded Port Clarence community to hold Christmas party

A community on Teesside which was planning its first Christmas party before floods led to hundreds of homes being evacuated, says it will still go ahead.

On Thursday, the River Tees burst its banks following the highest tide recorded for 150 years, leading to 300 homes being evacuated in Port Clarence.

Santa's sleigh survived the floods and a Christmas tree is being donated to the village, meaning the Christmas party can still go ahead.

A fund has been set up by the Billingham Legacy Foundation to help those affected by the floods.
