Murderer Paul Smart's 999 call released

The 999 call made by a Teesside man who fatally stabbed his partner of 29 years has been released following his conviction for murder.

Paul Smart told the operator that Angela Smeaton was lying in a pool of blood at their Hartlepool home, in April.

Smart, 49, had admitted manslaughter, claiming he lost control after being provoked, but denied murder.

However, a jury at Teesside Crown Court convicted him of the more serious charge and he was sentenced to a life term in jail.
