Top officer Derek Bonnard 'branded a criminal'

Suspended Cleveland deputy chief constable Derek Bonnard says he has had to face people in the street branding him a criminal.

The 49-year-old faces gross misconduct hearings, but says he is relieved a criminal investigation into alleged fraud and corruption has been dropped.

He said his family had also suffered because of the uncertainty surrounding his career.

Mr Bonnard faces seven misconduct allegations, which are due to be heard later this year.

They involve allegations surrounding the misuse of public funds and corporate credit cards.

He was arrested a year ago along with the force's chief constable Sean Price, who is also facing misconduct allegations.
