Man recalls escape from flood car

A Tyneside man has told how he escaped from a car seconds before it was submerged by raging floodwater.

Sean Battista was on his way to a decorating job in Newburn, near Newcastle, when the main road through the village was overwhelmed by floodwater from the worst September storm to hit the North East for 30 years.

Just yards away, the floodwater ripped away foundations from a block of flats, which are now in danger of collapse.
