Wearside NHS patients prescribed home improvements

People on Wearside have been prescribed home improvements by the NHS as part of a new pilot scheme.

Boilers and windows are among the items available to patients in Sunderland with conditions which are made worse by cold conditions.

The energy-efficient measures will be paid for by the NHS with work carried out by housing association Gentoo.

Health chiefs said it could lead to "less pressure on services" and that there are "tight criteria to make best use of taxpayers' money".
