Sleeping rough on the streets of Newcastle

A charity says the number of people sleeping rough has "reduced significantly" in Newcastle.

Changing Lives runs a day centre on Westgate Road providing a safe haven for homeless people to do their laundry, have a shower and get some food. It also offers beds to those who need them.

CEO Stephen Bell says over recent years, the number of people sleeping rough in the city has fallen from about 50 people to a "manageable number" of five or six.

BBC Look North's Damian O'Neil went out with one of the charity's outreach workers to meet those sleeping on the streets.
