Tyne-Wear derby late kick-off prompts safety concerns

Northumbria Police has warned Sunderland AFC and Newcastle United fans that anyone who provokes trouble during Easter Sunday's derby will receive "firm treatment".

The Tyne-Wear derby kicks off at a later time of 16:00 BST at the Stadium of Light for the first time in 14 years.

Ch Supt Steve Neill said Northumbria Police would have a "relaxed, friendly approach" but if people who have had too much to drink cause problems they would be dealt with "swiftly".
