Digger joins funeral cortege for 'Bristol's first JCB driver'

A JCB has been used to carry the coffin of a man believed to be the first to drive the famous diggers in Bristol to his funeral.

Paul Nowicki, 90, first drove one of the vehicles in the 1950s, having arrived in the UK as an asylum seeker from Poland, following World War Two.

He died earlier this month and the digger was used to carry his coffin from his home village of Pucklechurch to Westerleigh Crematorium.

His son John told the BBC: "That is exactly how he would have wanted it."
