Gas made from waste ice cream
Waste from a North Yorkshire ice cream factory is being turned into gas to provide energy for the National Grid.
Sugar and fat left by the manufacturing process is changed into biomethane by micro organisms in an anaerobic digester, providing enough gas to power more than 2,500 homes.
The factory in Leeming Bar produces own-label products for supermarkets and confectionery companies.
