Letter bombs sent to PSNI officers 'designed to kill'

Two letter bombs addressed to police officers have been discovered at sorting offices in Northern Ireland.

A package addressed to PSNI chief constable Matt Baggott was discovered early on Friday at a Royal Mail sorting office in Mallusk, County Antrim.

A second device addressed to a senior police officer was later discovered at a Royal Mail depot in Lisburn, County Antrim.

Assistant Chief Constable Will Kerr said he believed dissident republicans were behind both devices, and that the PSNI were taking the threat level seriously.

BBC Northern Ireland home affairs correspondent Vincent Kearney reports.
