Deficit is most urgent issue, say Cameron and Clegg
The prime minister and his deputy have written to cabinet colleagues to remind them that reducing the deficit is the "most urgent issue facing Britain".
But David Cameron and Nick Clegg also say any proposals to promote economic growth will be treated favourably in the departmental spending review.
The prime minister has been taking his message round the country, while many of his colleagues are on their August break.
He spent much of Tuesday persuading the people in the West Midlands of the benefits of his economic strategy.
