Vince Cable: Public aware that cuts are necessary
Business Secretary Vince Cable has said that "very difficult choices" had to be made about cuts and public sector spending to deal with the deficit.
But Mr Cable said he also believed that members of the public understood the "gravity of the problem" and the need for action.
His comments came after Justice Secretary Ken Clarke warned that middle classes had not fully taken on board the true scale of government spending cuts, and that the coalition should be prepared for political difficulty when Middle England feels the full impact.
