Theresa May on controversial new sentencing plans

The government is reviewing its controversial plans to reform sentencing in England and Wales.

The prime minister has met with the Justice Secretary Kenneth Clarke, to discuss the proposals, which include halving the jail terms of some offenders who plead guilty.

The Home Secretary Theresa May said it was in everybody's interest to cut re-offending and the government was discussing what legislation would be effective.
