Extra 500 UK troops to withdraw from Afghanistan

David Cameron has given more details about the withdrawal of British troops from Afghanistan.

In a statement to the Commons the prime minister said a further 500 soldiers would end their combat role by the end of 2012, reducing levels to 9,000.

Around 450 mainly auxiliary personnel are already scheduled to be withdrawn in the coming months.
