Gordon Brown 'called for inquiry' on phone hacking
Former prime minister Gordon Brown has told MPs that he had previously proposed a judge-led inquiry to meet "growing public concern" over allegations of News International's abuse of press freedom.
Rupert Murdoch's News Corporation withdrew its bid for total control of BSkyB just hours before MPs were due to unite behind a motion calling on the company to scrap the plans.
