Courts on TV: MP David Davis opposes on-air proceedings

A former shadow home secretary cited the OJ Simpson hearing in the US as a reason not to televise court hearings in the UK.

Tory MP David Davis said he would back proposals for some televising of the sentencing of offenders in English courts, but was opposed to the "theatrical operations" in American courts where full proceedings were put on air.

Labour MP David Lammy backed the move saying "people need to see justice done" and said Conservatives had originally opposed the televising of the House of Commons.
