Public and state to fund British political politics?

Liberal Democrat Lord Razzall said state funding could help take the "sleaze" out of British politics, and all parties have had their issues with funding.

Labour's Michael Dugher said the public must be asked if they would back public funding in difficult economic times , while David Willetts said the Conservatives backed a cap on political donations but was less impressed with the idea of state funding.

They spoke after a Daily Politics film on state funding for political parties.
