Theresa May vows 'stronger' UK border in future
Theresa May has said the UK Border Agency will be split in two, following revelations that hundreds of thousands of people were let into the country without appropriate checks.
The home secretary told MPs that the UK Border Force would become a separate law-enforcement body with its own distinctive "ethos" to ensure "a stronger border in future".
Her announcement came as she made a statement to the Commons to reveal the findings of a report into lapses of border security last summer.
The then UK Border Force chief Brodie Clark was suspended - and later resigned saying his position was untenable - after it emerged that checks were relaxed further than ministers had authorised.
