Hammond: Failed hostage rescue 'had to be done'
Defence Secretary Philip Hammond has used a House of Commons statement to give more details of the failed hostage rescue bid in Nigeria.
He said there was an "imminent and escalating threat" when the attempt was made to rescue them from a compound in Nigeria.
Briton Chris McManus and Italian Franco Lamolinara died as Nigerian and UK forces tried to free them from Islamists in Sokoto in Nigeria's north.
