Police commissioner elections to be held in November
The first elections for 41 police commissioner roles for forces in England and Wales, outside London, will be held later this year and candidates have started to put their names put forward.
Giles Dilnot spoke to Lib Dem MP Tom Brake and Labour MP Alun Michael, a candidate for the South Wales force position, to see how political the elections could get, and where the main parties stood on the polls.
They commissioners will take over the job of the current police authorities, made up of local councillors, and will have the power to hire and fire chief constables.
