David Cameron defends cuts as he opens Farnborough Airshow

Prime Minister David Cameron has defended the government's cuts in the Army as he officially opened the Farnborough Air Show in Hampshire.

In his speech, Mr Cameron said the coalition had inherited "a defence budget that was falling apart at the seams".

He said the UK defence budget would now be ''sustainable''.

On 5 July, Defence Secretary Philip Hammond told MPs that the Army would lose 17 major units as it cuts 20,000 regular soldiers by 2020.
