Welsh Secretary David Jones meets alleged abuse victim

Correction 10 November 2012: The BBC has apologised unreservedly for broadcasting a report on Newsnight on 2 November over allegations of child abuse which transpired to have involved a case of mistaken identity. The Secretary of State for Wales David Jones has met Steve Messham who claims he was abused by a senior Conservative in the 1980s.

The allegations of abuse centre around children's homes in north Wales. Some victims say an inquiry which reported in 2000, did not examine all the claims.

Home Secretary Theresa May today announced a new police inquiry into the allegations.

David Jones said he assured Mr Messham that his claims would be treated with the utmost priority.
