Census and UK immigration: Keith Vaz and Andrew Green
The last government had a good record on legal migration but an "appalling record as far as illegal migration was concerned" said Keith Vaz, a former Labour minister who now chairs the Home Affairs Select Committee.
But he said it was "very difficult to come here now" for people outside the EU trying to settle in Britain legally.
Migration Watch chairman Sir Andrew Green said four million immigrants had arrived in the UK over the last ten years. He said that was double the estimate from his group, and those figures were ridiculed at the time by the left wing press.
He said Britain had lost control of its borders for ten years and "we cannot go on like this", after the pair watched a Daily Politics film on the latest census figures.
