Government whips: Ann Taylor, Brooks Newmark and Baroness Neuberger

Former Labour whip Ann Taylor recalled how male MPs apologised and curbed their language when she was just one of 27 women MPs in the House of Commons in the 1970s.

She is portrayed in the This House play, as she debated the role of the whips with Conservative MP Brooks Newmark who used to the job for his party.

And Baroness Neuberger, a crossbench peer who previously sat with the Lib Dems, explained how it worked to a lesser extent in the House of Lords,
