Preview of Wythenshawe by-election

On 13 February 2014, the main political parties face their first electoral test of the year when voters in part of Greater Manchester go to the polls.

The by-election in the previously safe Labour seat of Wythenshawe and Sale East follows the death of the former minister Paul Goggins. It's the seventeenth by-election in less than four years.

The BBC's Chris Mason says the by-election will set hearts in Westminster racing as it will give parties a "very real sense of whether they are popular or not".
