Philip Hammond on ceasefire: 'Stop the loss of life'
After meeting in Paris foreign ministers, including UK Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond, have called for an extension of the current 12-hour truce between Israel and Hamas.
Mr Hammond told the BBC: "The necessity right now is to stop the loss of life."
The death toll in Gaza has passed 1,000, Palestinian medical officials say, 19 days after Israel launched an offensive against Hamas militants.
Thirty-nine Israelis have also been killed since the Israel-Hamas conflict began on 8 July.
