Ebola: MP Keith Vaz calls for UK passenger screening

A MP has called for infra red screening of passengers heading in to the UK to make sure that Ebola is kept out.

The chair of the home affairs select committee said Britain "should do more than wait for the first case to arrive".

And Keith Vaz said the UK should have acted when the World Health Organisation (WHO) declared an emergency in August, although it has not called for passenger screening.

He told Jo Coburn on the Daily Politics: "With the greatest respect to the WHO, a virus does not wait for a direct flight."

The UK government has so far ruled out screening for Ebola at its borders, despite several American airports introducing the measure.
