BBC Rewind: Jeremy Thorpe loses North Devon

The Liberals suffered a big blow in the 1979 general election when their former leader Jeremy Thorpe lost the seat he had held for 20 years. Thorpe had entered the election under a cloud, being due to stand trail for conspiracy to murder the following week (he was later acquitted of the charge).
