Labour to crack down on criminals seeking UK citizenship
Tough new measures to prevent foreign criminals from becoming UK citizens would be introduced by Labour if it wins the next election, the party is expected to announce.
Shadow Home Secretary Yvette Cooper is expected to say later that the system for approving citizenship is in chaos, after the chief borders inspector sharply criticised the quality of existing checks.
But the Home Office has blamed poor decisions by the previous Labour government.
