Could there be a bridge between the UK and France?

Could you build a bridge between the UK and France? The Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson has suggested the idea of a "fixed link" between the two countries.

Is this feat of engineering even possible? Dave Parker, technical editor of New Civil Engineer magazine and Ian Firth, bridge designer, both agree it could happen.
