Work to stop Shell oil leak continues

Shell is continuing its fight to shut off an oil leak in the North Sea.

The company began the first stage of the process by stabilising a pipeline which had lifted off the seabed.

There was a danger the pipeline near the Gannet Alpha platform could break sending hundreds more tonnes of oil into the sea.

There are plans to send divers down to close off the valve where oil is escaping.
