Discounted fuel for remote areas 'due in spring'

A special discount scheme to counteract rocketing petrol prices in remote communities could be in place within months.

The Westminster government has promised the move before but blamed delays in Europe for the lack of progress.

The news came as MPs called for a UK-wide planned increase in fuel duty next year to be abandoned.
