Stab victim's kindness was his downfall

The family of a man killed by the former girlfriend he was trying to support have been speaking of their grief.

Robert Brereton, 47, was stabbed 26 times by 45-year-old Melanie Stevenson in a frenzied attack at her Forfar home in March.

Ms Stevenson pleaded guilty to culpable homicide on the grounds of diminished responsibility and was jailed for five years and 10 months.

Outside court, Mr Brereton's 57-year-old sister Mary Graham and his brother, Paddy Brereton, said the vicitim's kindness was his downfall.
