Wave saves 72-year-old sailor Gerry Beard

A pensioner who was swept overboard from his yacht on Saturday has been recovering at the Fishermens' Mission in Stornoway.

Sailor Gerry Beard, 72, was travelling from Reykjavik in Iceland to his home in Wester Ross when his boat was battered by a force eight gale off the Butt of Lewis.

Mr Beard spoke to BBC Alba's Angus Macdonald and BBC Scotland's Gary Robertson. He said: "one slip and it could all have been over".
