Aberdeen by-pass set to go ahead after appeal fails

After years of planning and years of protest the long-awaited Aberdeen bypass has almost certainly cleared its final hurdle.

Judges at the Supreme Court in London rejected an appeal by campaigners against the route.

The news has been greeted with delight by business leaders and politicians in the north east.

First Minister Alex Salmond said work on the project would begin immediately and is expected to be finished in 2018.
