Unite: 'No intentions of allowing Grangemouth to close'

Len McCluskey, general secretary of the Unite union, has arrived in Grangemouth for talks with shop stewards on the future of the petrochemical plant.

Union leaders are meeting Ineos management and have said they will offer concessions to try to save the petrochemical plant.

The company said on Wednesday it would have to close the plant after workers rejected a deal which would have changed their pay and pensions.

Mr McCluskey told BBC News: "We have put a proposition back to the company.

"We have no intentions of allowing the plant to close. Basically speaking now we are going to see what the company's reaction is."
