Hague: Independent Scotland must 'reapply' for EU membership
Foreign Secretary William Hague has told BBC Radio 4's Today programme that it is important for the Scottish public to "understand the implications" of gaining independence, ahead of a speech in Glasgow.
Mr Hague explained that he believes Scotland would have to "'reapply" for membership to the European Union if they became independent following the referendum, due to take place later this year.
He added that every new EU member state since the 1990s "has been required… to commit itself to joining the Euro"'.
First broadcast on BBC Radio 4's Today programme on Friday 17 January 2014.
