Swinney says 'No U-turn' on Trident in Sterling zone deal
John Swinney MSP has rejected suggestions of a Scottish government U-turn on Trident in return for a Sterling zone in an independent Scotland.
Mr Swinney said: "No, there is no truth in that whatsoever and the SNP government has been very clear."
He went on: "One of the purposes of independence is to remove nuclear weapons from Scottish waters and Scottish soil".
The Scottish finance minister had been responding to a reader's question during a BBC Scotland News webcast ahead of the SNP party conference in Aberdeen.
