Worry over ending of fish discards

Researchers say they are worried an EU move to end the practice of fish discards will adversely affect Scottish wildlife.

Researchers at Strathclyde University have said a ban on fishermen throwing away healthy fish could harm wildlife and fail to improve fish stocks.

The EU is gradually stopping the practice, called discards, which had been widespread as skippers tried to avoid falling foul of quota rules.
