Tommy Sheridan lodges appeal to clear his name

Tommy Sheridan has lodged an appeal against his perjury conviction with the Scottish Criminal Cases Review Commission.

The former Scottish Socialist Party leader and Solidarity MSP was awarded £200,000 in damages after winning a defamation case against the News of the World in 2006.

He was later jailed for three years for committing perjury during the case.

Mr Sheridan addressed the media, with his lawyer Gordon Dangerfield, at the Glasgow offices of the commission.
