Smith Commission: 'A good start but a long way to go'
The chair of the commission set up to deliver further devolved powers to the Scottish Parliament says its first meeting has been a "good start" but that there was still a "long way to go".
Lord Smith of Kelvin, who led the meeting attended by the five main Holyrood parties, said there was common ground on constitutional issues, adding: "We agreed all the guiding principles that are going to inform our talks over the next several weeks."
When asked about concerns that the commission could be affected by ongoing discussions in Westminster, Lord Smith said he was clear that his remit was not to examine English votes for English laws but to look solely at Scottish issues.
